Clay Dates !
Come get your hands dirty!
Ever wanted to try pottery but didn’t want to commit to a whole series of classes? Or maybe you’ve tried it before and just want a creative space to keep making things?
Welcome to Clay Dates!
Clay Dates are casual, one-time pottery sessions held in my home studio in Sunset Hills, St. Louis.
Whether you’re looking for a little solo creative time, a fun date idea, or an afternoon making pottery with friends, Clay Dates are designed to be flexible, affordable, and completely commitment-free!
You don’t need any experience, and there’s no membership or long-term commitment. Come once, come occasionally, or come as often as you’d like!
I offer two types of Clay Dates: hand-building and wheel throwing.
-
$30 per person, per session
Have something you’ve been wanting to make out of clay? Let’s make it happen!
Hand-building is all about creating pottery using your hands and a variety of tools rather than a pottery wheel.
Here’s how it works:
Before your Clay Date, I encourage you to browse Pinterest, Instagram, or anywhere else you find inspiration. Come with an idea (or two or three!) of something you’d love to create.
Whether it’s a funky mug, a decorative dish, a little sculpture, or something completely unique, I’ll help you bring your vision to life.
I’ll provide the clay, tools, materials, and guidance you need to create your piece. Think of me as your pottery sidekick! You bring the ideas, and I’ll help you figure out how to make them happen.
The best part? You can decorate your pottery with underglazes during the same session!
That means you can create and decorate your entire project in one visit without needing to schedule a separate glazing session.
Your piece will still need time to dry and go through the firing process before it’s ready for pickup, but I’ll take care of all of that for you!
Perfect for: Beginners, creative outings, trying something new, or anyone who has a pottery idea they’ve been dying to make!
-
First session: $40 per person
Every session after: $20 per person
Want to try your hand at the pottery wheel?
Wheel throwing is a completely different experience from hand-building, and I’ll be the first to tell you: it’s harder than it looks!
Learning to throw pottery takes patience and practice, but that’s part of the fun.
Your first Clay Date will focus on getting comfortable with the wheel, learning the basics, and working toward making your first piece.
I’ll be right there helping you throughout the process!
A little heads-up: Wheel throwing takes practice, and I can’t guarantee you’ll end your first session with a successful piece. However, I’ll do everything I can to help you create something you’re proud of!
Because wheel-thrown pottery is still very wet at the end of a session, we can’t glaze it that same day.
Instead, you have two options:
Option 1: I’ll glaze it for you!
Once your pottery is ready, you can choose a glaze, and I’ll take care of glazing your piece.
Option 2: Come back for another Clay Date!
You can return to glaze your previous creations and spend some more time practicing on the wheel.
And because practice makes progress, every wheel-throwing session after your first is just $20!
There’s no pressure to come back, but the more time you spend on the wheel, the more comfortable you’ll become.

One of my favorite things about Clay Dates is that they’re flexible!
There aren’t set classes you have to register for or a schedule you have to commit to.
Instead, we’ll find a date and time that works for both of us.
My most consistent availability is:
Monday: 10 AM – 4 PM
Tuesday: 10 AM – 4 PM
Thursday: 10 AM – 4 PM
I also occasionally have weekday evening availability and daytime availability on Sundays.
Don’t see a time that works for you? Reach out anyway! I’m always happy to see what we can work out.
How long should you plan to stay?
Most Clay Dates last around 2–3 hours, but the timing is flexible!
I recommend setting aside at least a couple of hours so you have plenty of time to work on your project without feeling rushed. Creating something out of clay takes time, and I want you to have the opportunity to really enjoy the process.
Do you have to schedule multiple sessions?
Nope! We only need to schedule one Clay Date at a time. There’s absolutely no commitment to return, although you’re always welcome back!
Location: My home pottery studio in Sunset Hills, St. Louis, Missouri.
-
Do I need any pottery experience?
Not at all! Beginners are absolutely welcome.
I’ll guide you through the process and help you get comfortable working with clay. Whether you’ve never touched clay before or you’ve taken pottery classes in the past, there’s a place for you here!
Are Clay Dates private, or can I bring friends?
Both!
You’re welcome to come solo for some one-on-one creative time, bring a friend, or make it a group outing.
My studio can comfortably accommodate up to 8 people, so Clay Dates are great for small groups, creative get-togethers, or just spending some time making something with your favorite people.
Do I have to sign up for multiple classes?
Nope! That’s the beauty of Clay Dates.
Every session is its own experience. Come once, come back occasionally, or make it a regular creative outlet.
There’s no membership, no minimum number of sessions, and no pressure to commit to anything beyond the Clay Date you’re scheduling.
Do I need to know what I want to make?
For hand-building, I definitely recommend coming with some inspiration!
Having a project in mind helps us make the most of our time together. Feel free to save a few photos of things you’d like to try making.
Don’t worry about whether something looks too complicated. We’ll figure out what’s realistic for your experience level and the time we have together.
For wheel throwing, no specific project is necessary. We’ll focus on learning the process and seeing what you can create!
Are materials and firing included in the price?
Absolutely! Everything is included.
Your Clay Date price covers the clay, tools, materials, instruction, glazing, and kiln firings.
No hidden fees or surprise charges!
One thing to know about ceramics is that every piece has to survive the drying and firing process before it’s officially finished.
Clay can be unpredictable, and occasionally pieces crack or don’t survive the kiln. That’s just part of the process!
I’ll do everything I can to give your creations the best chance of success, but even experienced potters occasionally lose a piece to the kiln.
We’re all just crossing our fingers until that final kiln opening!
Can I take my pottery home the same day?
Not quite!
Pottery needs time to dry and go through two separate firings before it’s ready to take home.
Even if you finish decorating your piece during your hand-building session, it will still need to dry and be fired in the kiln.
I’ll take care of the firing process and let you know when your finished pottery is ready for pickup!
Can I come back and keep practicing?
Absolutely! That’s exactly what Clay Dates are for.
Whether you want to improve your wheel-throwing skills, work on a completely different hand-building project, or just spend another afternoon getting creative, you’re always welcome to schedule another session.
And remember, after your first wheel-throwing Clay Date, every additional wheel session is only $20 per person!
